Fight Against Breast Cancer

Susan G. Komen Fundraiser

This year, Pheasant Run Resort is taking on the fight against breast cancer. We have created a Pheasant Run Campaign so that we can raise funds to stop this disease that affects 1 in 8 women during their lifetime.

As the world’s largest and most impactful breast cancer organization, Susan G. Komen supports more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit outside the U.S. government, while providing real-time help to those facing the disease.

More Than Pink Project

In addition to an online fundraising campaign, we will be selling some items at our Activities desk at Pheasant Run to help us raise money. Purchase our pink merchandise during activities hours to show your support for the cause. We will be selling items throughout October or until sold out with 100% of the collected money to be donated to Komen.

  • $1 Pink Ribbons

  • $2 Pins

  • $2 Pink Wrist Bands

Mainstage Theater for Breast Cancer Awareness

Thanks to our in-house AV team at Vidtech, we have also lit up our Mainstage Theater pink to help promote Breast Cancer Awareness.

We want to join Susan G. Komen in their efforts to end breast cancer forever and we are asking for your help to make that vision a reality. Your gift will help Susan G. Komen provide education, screening and treatment programs for women and men in our community, and support cutting-edge research so that one day we can live in a world without breast cancer.

We thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites West Loop Celebrate Earth Week

In celebration of Earth Week, the hotel’s Promise Committee partnered with Openlands and the students of Morrill Math and Science Elementary School to plant three trees around the elementary school grounds. The money used to plant and feed the trees was raised by the Promise Committee during 2017’s Earth Week, donating $1500 to Openlands, an organization that protects the natural and open spaces of northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region to ensure cleaner air and water, protect natural habitats and wildlife, and help balance and enrich our lives.

The trees were named Bud, Lewis, and Dottie as one tree had several little buds ready to sprout, another Lewis - for Lewis the Duck the Homewood Suites mascot, and Dottie as she had speckled bark.

A big thank you to our Promise Committee, volunteers, and all that supported the hotel’s Earth Week efforts!

Earlier today, members of the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza's Promise Committees read to the students of George Manierre Elementary School in celebration of #ReadAcrossAmericaDay, which also happens to be Dr. Seuss's birthday!

Thank you Violet, Liliana, Frank, Tina and Florence for volunteering your time! It was greatly appreciated by the students and faculty.

Feeding Our Hungry Neighbors

Our Promise Committee set out to connect with a charity in our community and we found the Northern IL Food Bank nearly right in our back yard.

We quickly were able to create an online donation site to encourage our guests and employees to donate funds to our cause. We created informational pieces on our website to help promote the food bank and provide valuable team building opportunities for our meetings and conventions. Every little bit helps. Did you know that they can provide $8 of food for every $1 donated? That's amazing!

We wanted to get out there and get involved ourselves and so we formed a group to volunteer for a shift at the warehouse packing food. When we arrived we were given a brief orientation about the food bank and the good work they do and then we got down to work!

It's amazing how people from all different parts of the hotel can come together as a team to get the job done, jumping in where needed! We're used to seeing this around Pheasant Run.

The three-hour shift seemed to fly by as we quickly completed three projects for the food bank that day. All in all (with a little help from another organization working alongside us), we packaged 24,042 pounds of food, providing 20,035 meals for hungry neighbors in Northern Illinois!

All in all, it was three hours well spent! We added our names to the giant name tag ball representing the thousands of previous volunteers who have passed through this warehouse. We encourage you to get out there and do the same!

Ronald McDonald House Charities® Pop Tabs Program

The Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza has joined in the journey of becoming a member of the Ronald McDonald House "Thanks-a-Million" Club.

Background Information

"Thanks-a-Million" Club was created with the needs of families in mind. The mission of RMHC-CNI is to care for families of children with complex medical needs by providing comfort, compassion and a sense of community. RMHC-CNI keeps families of hospitalized children together in a ‘home away from home’.

Through this program 153 families are able to stay close to their loved ones that are experiencing illness that requires lengthy hospital stays. Pop tabs are recycled by the Ronald McDonald recycling partner, United Scrap Metal, and the charity will then receives the market value of the recycled materials, plus a charitable match from United Scrap Metal.

The Impact of this amazing charity

In 2014, RMHC-CNI raised more than $40,000 from this program, which provides 800 nights of care and comfort for families. This allows families to save $160,000 in hotel and food costs.

As of June 23, 2017 the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza has collected 29.6 pounds which totals over 37,000 pop tabs!

Would you like to be a part of our journey?

Start collecting pop tabs and send them to Tina Beverly, Director of Human Resources at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza.

Together we can reach the one million goal!

Ronald McDonald "Meals From The Heart"

On June 20th, the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza team went the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children's Hospital. The Ronald McDonald House created the "Meals from the Heart" program to help feed families after a long day spent at the hospital with their loved ones. Their goal is to provide families a chance to unwind and de-stress in order to be their best for when their children need them. The Holiday Inn Team prepared lunch and served over 40 families and their loved ones. A big thank you to all who participated in this amazing event!

“Cookies from the Heart” at Ronald McDonald House

On March 28th the HIMP's Promise Committee  baked over 250 delicious cookies for the children and families at Ronald McDonald House in the Streeterville neighborhood. Thank you to all the volunteers. A special thank you to our Chef Gabriel for providing the cookie dough!
